Local Area

Ilgaz is a small village of 45 houses set on the slopes of the Besparmak mountains with panoramic views of mountains and the sea. It is 3kms up the mountain from the main Kyrenia to Alsancak road. The village is a mixture of old and new properties inhabited by a mix of Turkish Cypriot, Turkish and British residents. It is a quiet and friendly village. Within the village is a Turkish cafe, Ilgaz Koy Firin Cafe where they bake their own bread in traditional style bread ovens and provide a generous Turkish breakfast along with lunch or supper by arrangement. On the edge of the village is Etel Winery with its vineyards. Gillham Vineyard Hotel is a small hotel which has an excellent restaurant and a Wine Bar with stunning views across the vineyards where you can sit and drink from their selection of delicious wines including wines from grapes grown in Ilgaz. There is a tapas menu at the Wine Bar. Also in Ilgaz village is Trattoria Vineyard for homemade pizzas and pasta.

Getting Here

There are two ways to get to Ilgaz in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

ERCAN AIRPORT

Ercan Airport is the only airport in the TRNC. Northern Cyprus is predominantly Turkish speaking and the currency is the Turkish Lira. Flights to Ercan airport (sometimes called Lefkosa or Nicosia Airport) have to land in Turkey wherever you are flying from and you will need to change planes. The drive from Ercan airport to Ilgaz is approximately 50 minutes. We can arrange for a taxi to collect you from Ercan or for a hire car to be provided for you at the airport and email you detailed directions.

LARNACA AIRPORT

Larnaca Airport is in South Cyprus. South Cyprus is predominantly Greek speaking and the currency is the Euro. Flights from UK to Larnaca are direct. The drive from the airport to Ilgaz is approximately 75 minutes. PLEASE NOTE There is a border crossing between South and North Cyprus. If you have a UK / EU passport then the border crossing is straightforward. We can arrange for a taxi transfer to collect you from Larnaca airport and bring you straight to Ilgaz. At the border the driver will show your passports to the officials while you sit in the taxi for a few minutes. You can hire a car from Larnaca airport and drive yourselves however many car hire companies in the Greek side (the South) will not allow you to bring their car across the border. Your insurance from the car hire company becomes null and void when you cross the border where you will be required to purchase insurance to cover you whilst you are in TRNC. We would suggest that the most relaxing way to arrive is for a taxi to collect you at the airport and bring you to the villa. The car hire company will bring your hire car to the villa and do the paperwork with you at the villa. We can arrange your transfers and car hire.

  • A tranquil retreat in Ilgaz, Northern Cyprus.
We recently had the pleasure of staying in The Stone House, a charming 2 bedroom villa with a private pool in Ilgaz, a mountain village in Northern Cyprus. Our hosts Carola and Oz were nothing short of delightful and the villa offers a perfect space to escape from everyday life.
The interior of the villa is beautifully and tastefully decorated, combining modern amenities with traditional rustic touches. The living area provides a relaxing space, with comfortable furnishings and large windows that offer breath taking views of the valley and coast below. The bedrooms are cozy yet spacious, with very comfortable beds and air conditioning units.
One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly the private pool. Surrounded by sun loungers and shaded seating areas, we could unwind and soak up the Mediterranean sunshine while enjoying the amazing views.
the location of this villa is ideal for those seeking peace and quiet away from tourist crowds but within walking distance (50 minutes down the mountain) of the coast and shops. there are various restaurants in the village offering fantastic food and a welcoming atmosphere.
We would highly recommend this villa to anyone seeking an idyllic break in Northern Cyprus. We will definitely be returning.

  • As friends of Carola and Oz we visited the Stone House as they were putting the finishing touches to the refurbishment of this lovely property in the centre of the village of Ilgaz. The house has a beautiful feel to it, built from local stone it has views to the mountains and towards the coast. The lounge and kitchen area is flooded with light and opens out onto a fabulous terrace and pool area. We loved the features that had embedded traditional pieces into the fabric of the building. It has two large bedrooms and an inside bathroom with walk-in shower as well as a bathroom out in the courtyard area. The huge glass doors in the house offer great views but the bedrooms are designed to enable a good nights sleep including air con units and shutters for the windows.
The house has its own parking and is opposite the village cafe and bakery for those early morning breakfasts or bread. The village also has a bistro and a vineyard with wine bar for eating and drinking.
This is in my top three places to stay with Ilgaz Holidays and we look forward to visiting again.
